Who needs Moral Policing???

Remember the Mangalore Pub attack? Or incident when in Meerut some policemen went on a rampage, and beat up a few couples? Such policing now days can be seen in every corner of country from the legislative assemblies to streets, from court rooms to cinemas and from gardens to police station. In country like India where all religions are respected and every individual has a right to live according to their own will - How can handful of people randomly barge into any public place and terrorize people and lecture them on the issue of morality?

They lay down moral guidelines which even the Constitution of India does not touch upon. And even have their own cadre of cops – the so called moral police – whose aim is to uproot elements of Western culture from the society and restore pure Indian ones. There are Sri Ram Sena or the Shiv Sena or the Bajrang Dal who demonstrate their love for ‘Indian culture by molesting girls wearing jeans and vandalizing Valentine's Day celebrations .

I wonder since when did assaulting women and to make them toe the line become part of Indian culture? And when asked about this a Sri Ram Sena follower said that he was only trying to teach the girls a lesson and his actions should be seen no more than a brotherly act towards a wayward sister…..God save us from such brothers!!!  But it is worst to see women officers manhandle girls found in parks with their partners.

The bigger question here is - Who gives the moral police the right to police? They have absolutely no right to curb the freedoms and choices of other citizens of a free country. Even if a person is breaking the law – there is a way to address it and to a situation where no law is being broken and everybody is having a good time, it is none of their business to create problems and scream “save culture”.

I believe such people create a negative image of Indian Culture and this simply creates more problems to the already existing long list…..!!!!
